See how to use Bitstream's WebFont Wizard to create your PFR files. Now Bitstream has relased a stand-alone application that allows Windows users to embed almost any font - TrueType or Type 1 - for viewing on both Internet Explorer 4 and Navigator 4. With this in mind, Bitstream attempted to make TrueDoc more widespread by allowing designers and Webmasters to use a small selection of free TrueDoc fonts, located on the site. But Bitstream wanted to provide a simpler method. Typograph is still the way to create PFR's for those using Macs, and their new Version 2 could be a good choice for more advanced users (I will test this in coming months). The only way to make TrueDoc PFR (Portable Font Resource) files was by using HexMac's Typograph program. Now TrueDoc fonts can be seen by both major browsers, and if you have a different browser, you still see the text on the page just fine. The problem at first was that TrueDoc only worked with Navigator, and Microsoft's TrueType embedding only worked with IE4.īitstream changed the ground rules when they wrote an ActiveX control for IE4. Microsoft countered with their own TrueType font embedding (to be covered next month). New technologyīitstream released TrueDoc technology with Netscape Navigator 4. Worse, they don't even bother to use ALT tags, which would display the text while graphics are loading, or for those who can't see them.
